For the past year, I have been the project lead of a team of undergraduates for a submission for the 5th Cohort of the Space Domain Awareness Tools, Applications, and Processes Lab through the U.S. Space Force. We have been mentored by Sean Allen from the SDA TAP Lab, and by Richard Allen from UC Berkeley’s Department of Seismology and creator of Android’s ShakeAlert. Our project consists of creating a machine learning algorithm built on a Convolutional Neural Network(CNN) based on seismic data of commercial space launch systems using local cellular devices. The objective is to create a program that will notify locals of nearby space flight launches and their seismic readings. Currently, we are in the midst of getting clearance on using and training seismic data.
